Clinical definition (Orphanet)

A rare brachyolmia characterized by short stature with a high upper-to-lower segment ratio and relatively long arms. Mild scoliosis is typically present. Radiographically, it is distinct from other types of brachyolmia, showing rounded anterior and posterior vertebral margins and variable intervertebral space widths (narrowed or broadened). Some patients also exhibit precocious ossification of the falx cerebri, metaphyseal irregularities, and small epiphyses of the proximal femora. Additional clinical features may include widely spaced nipples, clinodactyly, hypoplastic nails, pectus excavatum, joint hyperlaxity, subtle facial dysmorphism (such as a flat nose and thick lips), and mild . There have been no further descriptions in the literature since 1989.

How rare: <1 / 1 000 000 — fewer than one in a million. In a city the size of Kolkata, that might mean on the order of fifteen people.

India — NPRD

Last verified 2026-07-26

This ORPHAcode is not on our curated NPRD list (direct or Mondo-parent match). That does not decide clinical eligibility; families in India should ask a notified Centre of Excellence about current coverage.

Hand-curated for this project. ORPHAcode mappings are best-effort and may be incomplete or imprecise for umbrella categories. Parent (Mondo) matches mean the policy lists a broader category — confirm eligibility with a Centre of Excellence. Financial entitlements summarised from public policy statements and may change. This is not official government guidance.
