Clinical definition (Orphanet)
A rare oxidative phosphorylation disorder characterized by onset of , feeding difficulties, deafness, and early fatal respiratory failure. Cardiac and liver involvement has been reported. Serum lactate is increased, and studies show decreased activity of respiratory complexes I and IV in skeletal muscle.
How rare: <1 / 1 000 000 — fewer than one in a million. In a city the size of Kolkata, that might mean on the order of fifteen people.
